California Highway Patrol (CHP's) Academy
The California Highway Patrol is known as one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the world. The road to becoming an officer will be a challenging one. You will be tested mentally, physically and emotionally on a daily basis. The purpose of the training regimen is to instill pride and discipline in each cadet.
California Highway Patrol Requirements:
Age: 20-35 years of age (as of written test date).
Education: High school diploma, GED, or California High School Proficiency Examination.
Highly desirable: possession of a degree, Associate of Arts or higher, from an accredited college; also, additional course work or advanced skills in the following areas: English, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary and composition; reading and comprehension; mathematics (used for traffic accident calculations); typing and computer skills (many officers use computers for reports, and most patrol vehicles currently have or will have computers); bilingual; physical fitness; other helpful courses may be social sciences such as sociology and psychology

Los Angeles Police Academy (LAPD) Academy
The Los Angeles Police Academy is less than ten minutes from the Civic Center, located in the 21-acre Elysian Park complex. The Academy is nestled in a picturesque setting of fountains, waterfalls, pine trees, and flowers. The classrooms, gymnasium, track, athletic field, obstacle course, and firing range, housed in and among Spanish-style buildings, are used for recreational and sports purposes, as well as training.
Los Angeles Police Academy Requirements:
Age: You must be 21 years of age at entry into the academy. However, you may take the written test if you are 20 ½ on the written test date.
Education: Graduation from a U.S. high school, G.E.D. or equivalent from a U.S. institution, or a California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) certificate is required. A two-year or a four-year college degree from an accredited U.S. or foreign institution may be substituted for the high school requirement. Citizenship
Residency: You do not have to be a resident of Los Angeles to apply for or work as an LAPD Office
